New Jersey's largest fine art museum serves as a vibrant hub for the arts and the community, with a strong focus on public programming that engages local artists and audiences. The museum boasts significant collections of American art, decorative arts, contemporary art, and arts from Asia, Africa, and the Americas, as well as an extensive collection of Tibetan art and artifacts from the ancient world. Notable American artists represented in its extensive collections include Hiram Powers, Thomas Cole, John Singer Sargent, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Church, Childe Hassam, Mary Cassatt, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Joseph Stella, Tony Smith, and Frank Stella. In addition to its remarkable art collections, the Newark Museum of Art is committed to natural science. It features the Dreyfuss Planetarium and the Animal Kingdom, which celebrates the incredible diversity of life on Earth through immersive and interactive experiences showcasing art and animal specimens. Behind the museum, the Alice Ransom Dreyfuss Memorial Garden is home to numerous contemporary sculptures and serves as a venue for community programs, concerts, and performances.
